Legends of our cultures. Term 2 2021

Maui and the sun.

This term we are learning about the legends of our culture. We all have stories that have been pasted down to us by our ancestors, grandparents and our parents. It is really important that we tell our children these stories as it helps them to gain a better understanding of who they are and where they came from.  If you have any stories that you have from your culture share it with your child.

Week two we explored Maui and the sun. We wrote about our favourite part of the story and as a class completed a collaborative art piece. The children worked really hard on staying in the lines and filling in all of the gaps. We focused was the warm colours of the colour wheel.

Over the last 4 weeks Room 12 have been working extremely hard at mastering our dance item for the Beatz of Mangere. Unfortunately due to the weather forecast the Beatz of Mangere was postponed until term 4 2021. Our Principal Whaea Nardi knew that all of the children had been working really hard on the item and wanted us to have an audience to perform to. We went out to Finlayson Park School and and shared with them "The evolution of dance" Our Children did an amazing job. We were so proud of them.

 Hello, Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Talofa Lava, Taloha Ni, Bula, Ni Hau, Namaste, Malo e Lelei, Fakalofa, Lahi Atu, Vinaka, Hola, Sagutom, Konichiwa.

Kia ora, my name is Whaea T, and I am so excited to be your child's teacher for 2021 in Room 12. This will be my third year teaching at Jean Batten.  I enjoy crafting, dancing and watching my children play their sports. 

Our theme this year is “We are storytellers”. In term 1 our focus is “Korere Mai” Tell us about you. Your child will be coming home with questions about their family and how they got their name. Please make time to have these conversations with your child so they can share their story with their class. 

It’s going to be a great year full of new friends and new discoveries. Let's make it an incredible year.
